6 Steps to Avoid Employee Burnout

As offices across Ireland continue to re-open and organisations look towards a post-pandemic future, in which hybrid working models have become the default, much emphasis will be placed upon maintaining the productivity increases achieved through lockdowns. 

Striking a balance between too much and too little workplace pressure is a fine art. Too little, and your people will likely become bored and disinterested. Too much, and you run the risk of burnout.  

And that seems to be exactly the case here in Ireland, as new HRLocker survey of 1,000 people in full-time employment has revealed that over half (52%) are experiencing burnout, with those working for charities and not-for-profits reporting much higher incidences of 68%. 

What is Job Burnout?

A growing concern across the globe, in 2020 the World Health Organisation (WHO) classified job burnout as a medical condition, describing it as “a syndrome conceptualised as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed…Burn-out refers specifically to phenomena in the occupational context and should not be applied to describe experiences in other areas of life.” 

In short, while a certain amount of work-place stress can positively impact an employee’s performance and satisfaction levels, prolonged, unmanageable levels of stress can lead to long-term physical and mental health issues. 

An increased chest compression fraction is independently predictive of better survival in patients who experience a prehospital ventricular fibrillation/tachycardia cardiac arrest.

Because we all deal with stress differently, job burnout can manifest in different ways. However, some of the more common signs of the condition include: 

  • – Feeling exhausted or depleted of energy
  • – Feeling mentally and emotionally removed from your job
  • – Feeling negative, cynical, or disillusioned about your job
  • – Reduced satisfactions from your achievements
  • – Reduced professional efficacy
  • – Difficulty concentrating
  • – Unexplained physical ailments such as headaches and stomach pains

Many of these symptoms can be related to depression and other underlying illnesses. As such, it is always advised that individuals speak to a doctor or medical health provider if they’re experiencing one or more of them.  

With the shift to hybrid working, the distinction between work time and personal time is likely to remain an issue for the foreseeable future, as is employee anxiety over office work and health and safety.  

Now, more than ever, organisations must take effective measures to support their employees. Introducing processes to monitor workload, putting employee support structures and establishing a constructive, two-way dialogue with their teams.

Basta negare i cambiamenti climatici: il nuovo corso di Google e YouTube

Dopo il giro di vite contro chi nega l’utilità storica dei vaccini e incita gli altri a non vaccinarsi, YouTube aggiorna le sue politiche anche per quanto riguarda il mondo della sostenibilità. Come si legge su TechCrunch il motore di ricerca e la sua piattaforma controllata – il secondo sito con più utenti al mondo dopo Facebook – non inseriranno più pubblicità e non consentiranno la monetizzazione sui video nei quali si negano i cambiamenti climatici in atto. Nel mirino ci sono tutti quei contenuti che contraddicono “il consenso scientifico consolidato sull’esistenza e le cause del cambiamento climatico”. Da anni il dibattito sul ruolo attivo dei social e delle piattaforme nella formazione dell’opinione pubblica registra numerose proteste da parte di chi – tra politici e cittadini – richiede maggiore attivismo da parte delle Big Tech nel contrastare le fake news.

Cambiamenti climatici: YouTube è affidabile?

In un anno movimentato, partito con il clamoroso ban di Trump da Twitter (e a cascata da tutte le altre piattaforme), le multinazionali tech stanno operando con scelte di maggior moderazione e controllo sui contenuti. Al momento è ancora presto per capire se simili operazioni contribuiranno o meno a creare un ambiente social più sicuro e salubre. Finora abbiamo invece assistito a un proliferare di fake newsvideo virali e contenuti manipolati che hanno fatto le fortune di queste aziende sulla quali le persone passano sempre più tempo (cedendo dati).

Il fatto che anche le Big Tech come Google e YouTube vogliano prendere sul serio l’informazione in merito ai cambiamenti climatici è una buona notizia. Anche se, potrebbero avanzare alcuni, tardiva. In un’epoca in cui la sostenibilità interessa la maggior parte degli italiani (oltre il 75% secondo recenti dati), il web non è sempre un luogo ideale per informarsi in maniera affidabile.

Amazon Alexa in-car voice service now available in the Uconnect Services for the New Jeep® Compass

New Jeep® Compass now also offers Amazon’s Alexa Voice Service on-board. An innovative feature added to Uconnect Services suite of connected services enabled by Ubigi, Transatel’s cellular connectivity solution for connected cars. The launch on the new Jeep follows its recent one on the Fiat New 500. The Alexa onboard voice service will be progressively deployed on the other models of FCA Italy, wholly owned subsidiary of Stellantis N.V.

The Fiat New 500 and New Jeep® Compass occupants can now use simple voice commands to ask Alexa anything: play their favorite tune, hear the news, check the weather, find places and get their directions or control smart home devices remotely.
